Let's back up a little

Hey Everyone!

I'm gonna back up a little and give some insight as to what has been going on with us. Two years ago Jerrod and I decided to try to have a baby. With several unsucessful attempts, fertility medication rounds and surgery for my Endometriosis it has been a very long road! Jerrod changed jobs twice during that time and is finally settled in working at NFS. We've had so many ups and downs with trying to get pregnant that we finally gave up! Yes, everyone who said, "If you'll stop trying, it will happen" you were right! There has been alot of prayers that have been said for our situation and they were finally answered! So with all that being said lets start with the good news!

Thursday, April 9th

I had been having what was the strangest period ever! I've always had horrible ones every month and this time it was just weird. I had watched a show on TLC, "I was pregnant and didn't know it" and for those of you who know me well, you know that I have a very overactive imagination! So anyway, I thought well I'll buy a pregnancy test and I did. I came home early that day and Jerrod was in Erwin helping Daddy with the track meet. I took the test and it immediately was positive! I competely freaked out! I walked away from it for about 5 minutes and then came back. Sure enough it was POSITIVE!!! I didn't know what to do! I knew I couldn't wait until Jerrod got home at 9:00pm since it was about 5:00pm. I grabbed the box and drove like a maniac to Erwin. When I got to the track, Mom and Ellen were there and of course they both were like, "Why are you here? We didn't know you were coming?" I'm sure I was beaming, but I needed to find Jerrod fast! I finally wrestled him away from his duties and asked him to come to the car with me. He thought something was really wrong. Keep in mind, this is NOT how I wanted to tell him I was pregnant! I had all these things in mind of how I wanted to tell him when it finally happened, those went out the window as soon as that test read positive! I had placed the test in a plastic baggie, for sanitary reasons of course, and handed it to him. He looked at it and said, "What does this mean?" I started crying and said, "What do you think it means?" He said, "Let me see the box" so I did and he started getting excited. Then he said, "I think you need to take another one, go get the tests for dummies that say pregnant or not pregnant." I told him I would but it would be awhile because I needed to act like nothing was going on in front of Mom and Ellen. So a very long hour and a half went by. Finally I went to Walgreens in Erwin, they had the tests for dummies but the box was opened and I was not buying a tampered item! So then I went to CVS and they had it! As I waited for that test to turn positive, I got more and more excited! Mom and Ellen had left to go get pizza for our supper and it was taking forever for Jerrod to get there! He finally did, I showed him the test that said "Pregnant". He was so excited he picked me up, hugged me and gave me a kiss! Then I told him, if we were going to tell Mom and Ellen we had to wait on Daddy to get home! That seemed to take forever too! But Daddy finally got there and we told all 3 of them together. They were all so excited! Daddy got up and shook Jerrod's hand and said, "I knew you could do it son-in-law!" Needless to say, they are tickled to death! Friday morning, which was Good Friday, I woke up and took another test, it was positive yet again. I called Dr Thatcher's office and let them know about the tests, they wanted me to come in right then. We dressed quickly and had labs drawn. Two hours later they called with the wonderful news, Congratulations, Mrs. Tolley, you are pregnant. The next few days are a complete blur! I remember calling Mom, and then calling Ellen who had spent the night with us. She had gone to class but was on her way back to our house. She told me later she was so excited when I called that she cried! When she got back to the house she crawled in the bed with me and patted my belly. After that Jerrod and I got dressed and went to Erwin to tell his parents. I couldn't quite figure out how I wanted to tell them, so we put the pregnancy test in a plastic baggie and wrapped it in tissue down in a gift bag. Her birthday was just a few weeks ago, so we told her it was a present we had been waiting on. She opened it and started screaming! She was so excited she couldn't stop crying and screaming! We hugged, Jerrod's dad hugged him, and from then on it was hugs all around! Now if you know anything about my mother-in-law, you know she CANNOT keep a secret!!! She asked me almost immediately who she could tell! I told her no one! We were going to announce it to the whole family, mine at our Easter dinner on Saturday night and theirs at Easter dinner on Sunday. I thought she was going to die!!! We were going to tell his Mamaw and she could talk to her about it. His mom wanted to go with us to his Mamaws, so we piled in the Jeep and headed down there. We gave Mamaw the bag that we had given his mom and she was so excited! Then we went to the nursing home to see my Grandaddy. We knew Grandmother would be there visiting that afternoon, so I could tell them together. Keep in mind, this is the FIRST great grandchild for them! After Grandaddy finished his lunch, I pulled Grandmother close to the bed and held her hand and I put my other had on Grandaddy's shoulder. I looked at both of them and said, "I'm pregnant." You would have thought I had given my Grandmother a million dollars! She looked at me and said, "no you're not, are you really?!" I said yes I was and she grabbed me and started jumping up and down!!! I thought she was going to shake the baby out of me she was so excited! She said to my Grandaddy, "Walter, can you believe we're going to be Great Grandparents!?" He looked up at me and said, "That's great Sugar, congratulations." For those of you who don't know, anytime my Grandaddy uses the term "Sugar" that is his way of showing affection and telling you he loves you. After that we had a few more stops to make before Jerrod finally said he needed to go to bed because he was working third that night. I was too excited to sleep! On Saturday we told my family at dinner and Sunday, Daddy announced it at church. When we got to Jerrod's Mamaws, he pulled his brother, Mickey outside and told him he had something he needed him to look at on the Jeep. Jerrod opened the hood and let Mickey get all the way under the hood and said, "Hey you're gonna be an uncle." Mickey picked Jerrod up in excitement! Then after we prayed over Easter dinner, Jerrod said "Hey everyone can Mary go first, she's eating for 2!" There were several screams and tears of joy. After a funfilled afternoon of hiding eggs we headed on up to Jerrod's half brother, Shane's for yet another dinner! YUM!!! After we prayed Jerrod said the same thing he did at his Mamaws. There were more screams and tears of joy! When we told my niece, Kerstin she put her head to my belly and looked up at me and said, "I don't hear anything." It was priceless! Needless to say, the Congratulations were pouring in!!! Oh yeah, and we were getting ready to get another dog, not now!!!!

April 20th

So here we are, the night before our first ultrasound! I couldn't be more excited and nervous at the same time! I have been a whirlwind of emotions, hormones raging, crying constantly, nauseated, the thought of food repulses me, but then I'm starving the next minute! We have a very long road ahead of us and I can't wait! Jerrod has been so wonderful, words just cannot describe him! For everyone who knew about our situation and said prayers for this little "jelly bean", thank you from the bottom of our hearts! There will be so much more to come........

April 21st

We went for our ultrasound this morning and from my standpoint, it did not go well. Dr Thatcher could not find the heartbeat. He did not seem not very optimstic. He told me that to take it easy and if I started to spot at all to call immediately. He drew another HCG level and told me to come back in a week. I left his office in tears. The week to follow was going to be rough. Luckily when I called back that afternoon to get my lab results, my HCG level had gone from 1,124 to 25,081 which was some good news. On a lighter note, my sweet sweet husband said everytime I cried I needed to remember, "Honey, stop crying, today is important, you might be forming my baby's penis." Can you tell he wants a boy!!!

We went back for our second ultrasound this morning and it went WONDERFUL!!! Dr Thatcher could see a heartbeat!!! It was the neatest thing I've ever seen! It was just pounding away! Baby Tolley is such a TROOPER!!! So we are at 6 weeks and 5 days and right on track. He said everything looks great! We see him again in 2 weeks for another ultrasound and then he will release me to my OB/GYN. I am so excited words cannot express just how much better I feel!
